A Historic building found along Historic Route 66. This building has been standing tall since late 1870 when it was first a Bank of Baxter Springs. Famous for being among a few banks to be robbed by none other than American outlaw, Jesse James.

Lion Rojo Restaurant aims to bring our taste of home to the 4-States area, by combining a blend of our tradition Mexican cuisine with farm fresh food.

It’s Baxter Springs’ oldest brick structure.

Built in 1870 as the town’s first bank, the Bank of Baxter (later Crowell Bank) and infamously robbed by Jesse James in 1876, who made off with around $2,900

Over time, the building has housed a grocery store, several restaurants, and event venues

Most recently it was home to Café on the Route, a popular Route 66 diner featured on “Diners, Drive‑Ins and Dives” in 2007
